Police said both groups ran after shots were fired. One of the groups included the 9-year-old, who was hit and was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital. Officials have described her condition as stable.
Investigators said some people fled on foot while others left in a dark-colored Jeep. Lt. J.P. Harlicka of the Houston Police Department said the group that was running returned fire at the other group, which ran and jumped into the vehicle.
Detectives are now working to identify everyone involved and determine exactly how the confrontation unfolded. Police are asking anyone who saw the shooting or who has video to come forward to assist with the investigation.
This is the second shooting in two days linked to arguments that escalated into violence.
