Suspect turns himself in, claims self-defense after man fatally shot in East Downtown

HOUSTON – A man is dead after being shot at least one time in Houston’s EaDo area Wednesday evening.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Denver Street.

Officers arrived to find the man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Shortly after officers arrived, a man came up and turned himself in, saying that he was the one who had shot the other man.

Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department says the man told them the shooting happened during an argument between the two. The suspect is claiming self-defense.

Crowson said homicide investigators will be talking to the shooter as well as several witnesses at the scene. They will then present what they have to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to see whether they want to file charges or refer the case to a grand jury.
