Millions of AT&T customers have just days left to claim their share of a $177 million data breach settlement. Some customers can get up to $7,500.
The settlement covers two major data breaches that exposed personal information of more than 180 million current and former customers.
AT&T agreed to the settlement in March 2025 after hackers compromised customer data in separate incidents in 2019 and 2024.
The deadline to file claims is Dec. 18, following a court-approved extension of the original cutoff date.
AT&T breach details
The 2019 breach affected 73 million people, including 7.6 million current customers and 65.4 million former account holders.
Exposed information included Social Security numbers, birth dates and legal names. AT&T released details about this breach in March 2024, when customer data appeared on the dark web.
A second breach in April 2024 exposed phone records of approximately 109 million customers.
Compensation details
The settlement allocates $149 million for victims of the 2019 breach and $28 million for those affected by the 2024 incident.
Victims of the 2019 breach may receive:
— Up to $5,000 for documented losses— Base payments for those without documentation (amount varies based on whether Social Security numbers were exposed)
Those impacted in the second breach may receive up to $2,500.
Final payment amounts depend on the total number of claims filed.
