Suspected drunk driver arrested after running red light, slamming into Bellaire PD officer in SW Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – A Bellaire Police Department officer and a woman are both recovering after a crash on Wednesday morning.

According to the Bellairre Police Department, the crash happened around 1:13 a.m. near Hilcroft Avenue and Willowbend Boulevard. Officers were searching the area for a suspect’s vehicle when the driver of a sedan reportedly ran a red light while speeding and crashed into an officer’s patrol vehicle.

Both the officer and the woman were transported to the hospital.

Bellaire Police said the driver of the sedan is currently in custody for driving while intoxicated after showing signs of intoxication at the scene.

The Bellaire officer received stitches at the hospital and was then released.

Authorities say the woman had to be extracted from the car and transported to the hospital.

The sergeant had minor cuts and bruises.
