Woman who went missing after taking dog for walk in River Oaks found safe in downtown Houston

HOUSTON – An elderly woman with dementia who disappeared Monday afternoon while visiting her family in Harris County has been found safe.

According to the Harris County Precinct One Constable’s Office, Susana Hernandez, 85, left to walk the family dog around 3:30 p.m. and did not return.

Deputies were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to the 4000 block of Meadow Lake Lane after the family reported her missing.

Hernandez is from Austin and was in town visiting family when she went missing.

Just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Harris County Pct. 1 Constable Alan Rosen spoke to KPRC 2 and confirmed Hernandez was found at the corner of Louisiana and Prairie in downtown Houston after a citizen recognized her from the story.

Rosen sent us a photo of Hernandez along with her son and himself.

“We are grateful to KPRC airing the story that got the public’s attention and the citizen who recognized her and said he’d seen her minutes earlier,” Rosen said.
