HOUSTON – A Houston police officer is recovering after being shot during a suspect road rage on Gennser and Hempstead Saturday night.
Three people have since been arrested.
According to officers, the shooting happened around 10 p.m. when HPD officer Jake Parker was driving his personal vehicle, headed to his night shift, when a man in another vehicle got out of his vehicle at an intersection, approached the officer’s vehicle and started shooting.
Officer Parker was shot in the shoulder and was able to drive himself to a nearby police station before he was transported to the hospital.
Officers were able to locate the suspects by using a license plate reader.
The shooter, who police have identified as 23-year-old Homero Reyes, has since been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
A judge set his bond at $60,000 because it’s not clear if Reyes knew he was shooting at a police officer or who pulled out their weapon first.
Officer Parker has since been released from the hospital.
