Arrest made in assault that killed homeless man at shopping strip in southwest Houston

HOUSTON – An arrest has been made after police they say a homeless man died after being assaulted by another man in southwest Houston Tuesday.

The suspect has been identified as Mannly Devaughn Dolphus, 33. He is charged with aggravated assault, serious bodily injury.

Additional charges are pending the victim’s cause of death, which will be determined by an autopsy.

What happened

The incident happened in the 10800 block of S. Post Oak Road.

According to Lt. Larry Crowson, the 56-year-old victim was walking in front of a business when he was allegedly approached by Dolphus, who then assaulted him.

The victim fell to the ground and the suspect fled the scene.

Police say the victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
