Body of man, who went missing after taking boat on test drive on San Bernard River, recovered after 3-day search

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – Authorities say the body of a 70-year-old man, who went missing after taking a boat for a test drive on Monday, has been recovered.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said they were called at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Monday by concerned family members about a the man who had taken a boat for a test drive on the San Bernard River and did not return.

Authorities identified the man as 70-year-old Michael Rhoades, of West Columbia. He had last been seen around noon on Monday.

Authorities say they immediately started searching for him along the San Bernard River near FM 521.

On Thursday, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office announced Rhoades body was found and recovered around 2:15 p.m., approximately two miles north of the McNeil Bridge outside of Brazoria.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Rhoades’ family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said.
