Houston Fire Department responding to large fire at abandoned apartment building

HOUSTON, Texas – Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department worked through the morning to put out a large fire at an abandoned apartment building in northwest Houston Thursday morning.

HFD responded to the fire at the abandoned apartment building, formerly known as the Front Royale Apartments, located in the 10110 block of Westview just before 4 a.m.

According to the fire chief, the department is called to the abandoned building a lot due to homeless people hanging out inside.

It’s not clear how the fire started, but fire officials said part of the building collapsed.

The building is supposed to be demolished, but it’s not clear when the city will begin that process.
