GALVESTON, Texas – A 39-year-old Houston man drowned while swimming off Galveston’s Seawall Sunday evening.
According to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, the incident happened around 6:45 p.m. near 13th Street and Seawall Boulevard.
Beach Patrol officials said two people boogie boarding in chest-deep water noticed the unidentified man floating face down. They pulled him to shore and began first aid before lifeguards arrived.
Rescue crews immediately started CPR, which continued until Galveston EMS transported the victim to the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he died.
