Traffic is backed up on eastbound US-290 near Mueschke Road after a box truck caught fire early Friday morning.
Officials say the blaze started when a tire blew out, causing sparks that ignited an unknown accelerant beneath the truck. Hazmat crews are now on scene to contain the situation.
All occupants are safe, and there are no reported injuries. Two eastbound lanes and the Mueschke Road exit have since reopened.
Deputies from Harris County Precinct 4 are assisting at the scene, and firefighters are working to fully extinguish the fire and clear the roadway. Motorists are advised to expect delays and consider alternate routes.
