ONLY ON 2: Teen charged in 8-year-old brother’s death speaks out from jail, denies harming him

HOUSTON – A 17-year-old teen charged in connection with her 8-year-old brother’s brutal death is speaking exclusively with KPRC 2 News Reporter Corley Peel.

Kara Walker faces charges of injury to a child in the tragic case that shocked the community.

Walker’s younger brother, Charles Walker, died on Feb. 10. Her ex-boyfriend, 18-year-old Nolan Stallings, was also charged with injury to a child in the case.

In an emotional phone interview from the Harris County Jail, Kara Walker said she was shocked by her arrest and maintains her innocence.

“I’m being falsely charged. I wouldn’t do anything to harm my brother,” she told KPRC 2.

Walker said she had a close relationship with Charles, and they were at Stallings’ home in Highlands on the day Charles was found unresponsive. She described hearing Stallings scream for her and rushing to find Charles lying motionless.

When she asked Nolan what happen, Walker said he did not say much only that Charles had fell unresponsive.

Charles was rushed to the hospital but died from injuries.

“A nightmare that we can’t wake up from,” said Christian West.

Charles’ parents, Christian West and Cecil Walker said they found out Charles was injured after they got a call from hospital staff. The boy died from severe injuries with cracks in his skull.

“They just compared it to a car accident. 70 to 80 mile an hour car crash with an unrestrained victim,” said Cecil Walker.

Christian West said her daughter is only 5’2 and about 100 pounds. West said her daughter would be physically incapable of causing her brother that much pain.

How Charles got his injuries is a mystery. Court documents allege both Walker struck Charles with a blunt object. Stallings charging document shows he’s accused of striking Charles with or against a blunt object. Records also show Charles was abused and tortured over several days.

Walker denied ever physically harming her brother. Corley asked her about her conversation with detectives.

“They found a note in my phone that I didn’t write and because it was in my phone they’re saying that I wrote it, and they found text messages. About me saying that I had made my brother stand in the corner even though I didn’t make him stand in the corner,” said Walker.

Walker’s parents are standing by her alibi while hoping for justice for Charles, who they remember as “little man” with a huge heart.

“He would give you anything. He just wanted to see you smile and be happy,” said West.

West said his caring heart lives on after he donated his organs, saving five different children.

Walker described Charles as “an amazing little kid” who deserved better and should still be alive.

She also revealed Stallings had been physically abusive toward her in the past, though she never reported it to police.

Stallings was released on a $1 million bond. His attorney declined to comment on the case.

Walker remains in Harris County Jail on a $100,000 bond. The family is hoping Stallings charge will be upgraded from injury to child to murder. According to the Harris County District Attorney’s office, the punishment range is the same for both charges. Defendants may be charged at different times depending on evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
