ALVIN, Texas – More than 20 homes had to be evacuated, and several roads in the Alvin area were shut down due to a gas pipeline rupture on Wednesday morning.
The Alvin Police Department said the pipeline rupture happened in Hillcrest Village on Fairway Drive near the golf course around 11 a.m.
Early Wednesday evening, residents were allowed to return home.
The Brazoria County Fire Marshal’s Office was on-site, working with the Alvin Police Department to contain the natural gas leak. They said homes and businesses within a half-mile radius of Hillcrest Golf Course were asked to leave the area until the leak was contained.
