Firefighter suffers burns after getting trapped inside home on Houston’s South Side

HOUSTON – A Houston firefighter was injured after getting trapped in a home while responding to a call on the city’s South Side.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. when the Houston Fire Department said they were leaving another call and saw a column of smoke coming from a home on Botany Ln near Scott Street, and saw flames shooting from the roof.

Crews made their way into the home and tried looking for any residents inside, as initial reports they got said someone was inside. No one was found.

When conditions in the home worsened, the HFD captain had them leave, but one of the firefighters couldn’t get out.

That firefighter, however, was able to get out of the window but suffered burns and was rushed to a hospital in stable condition.

It’s unclear what led up to the fire, but arson units are working to investigate the cause.
