2-year-old girl dies after father hits her while backing up truck in NE Houston

HOUSTON – Houston Police say a 2-year-old is dead after being hit by a vehicle in northeast Houston Tuesday.

The incident happened in the 3800 block of Turner Drive, near Tidwell and the Eastex Freeway.

Police say the 2-year-old girl’s death appears to be a tragic accident and her father was driving the truck that killed her.

Police say the child’s mother was watching a group of kids at the house when the 2-year-old was somehow able to get out when her father got home from work.

The child’s father didn’t realize she was outside and was moving vehicles when he backed up and hit her.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the child died in the ambulance.

The father stayed at the scene, police say.
