Mayor John Whitmire wants Houstonians to know help is on the way when it comes to dangerous driving on Houston’s roads.
The mayor announced a new traffic safety initiative this week, focused on reducing reckless driving, road rage, and speeding along major highways, including I-45 and US-59.
In 2024 alone, Texas reported 73 road rage shootings, leaving 26 people dead and 53 others injured, according to a statewide analysis. A total of 84 people were shot in road rage incidents last year, with 28 killed and 56 injured.
Officials are also urging drivers to stay calm in traffic, avoid aggressive driving, and report any threatening behavior to 911.
