VIDEO: Car splits in half during major crash on Fondren Road in southwest Houston

HOUSTON – A major two-vehicle crash left multiple people injured and 300 customers without power after a powerline was hit during impact on a road in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The two-vehicle crash was reported around 2 p.m. in the 9300 block of Fondren Road.

Police arrived to the scene and saw one truck flipped over, a car split in half and a downed powerline.

A couple were inside the car and a man was driving the truck, according to HPD. Everyone was transported to a hospital and one woman is in surgery and is reportedly in critical condition.

Police believe the vehicles were possibly racing, both going south on Fondren.

They estimated the vehicles were going at least 70 mph, possibly faster when the crash occurred.

Nearly 300 customers had no power due to the crash.

CenterPoint sent the following response about the incident:

“Our hearts go out to all who are affected by this incident. CenterPoint Energy crews are onsite collaborating with first responders and law enforcement to secure the area and restore service to the 292 remaining impacted customers safely and as quickly as possible.”
