KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry was the scene after the wreck. He learned that one of the cars involved in the chase, a black Mitsubishi sedan, crashed into a white pickup truck that was not related to the dispute.
HPD later added that the vehicles burst into flames following the collision.
The truck had three passengers, who were all able to exit the truck uninjured before the flames erupted.
After the crash, the driver of the Mitsubishi jumped out of the car and took off on foot. Witnesses reported that he was holding his stomach, and they possibly saw blood. It’s unclear if this suspected wound resulted from being shot.
The other car involved in the chase, a black Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, also fled the scene.
After first responders extinguished the Mitsubishi, they discovered that the vehicle was a rental. It had extra dark tint put on the windows, and officials discovered fake license plates and window braking devices in the car. These discoveries led officers to believe the driver might have used this vehicle to commit juggings or other crimes.
“We just don’t know at this point. But it does make you think that he was involved in something he shouldn’t have been.” HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said.
At this time, neither of the possible gunmen have shown up at Houston-area hospitals.
