Officials said the dog had no access to shade, food or water.
He was found deceased as Houston SPCA Animal Cruelty Investigations team and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 rushed to the scene.
A digital thermometer exceeded its maximum reading capacity — over 108°F — highlighting the extreme heat the dog endured before his death.
“This heartbreaking case of animal cruelty is a painful reminder that heat can be deadly for pets in a short amount of time,” said Dr. Roberta Westbrook, Chief Veterinarian and Vice President of Veterinary Medicine. “It was entirely preventable.”
With summer-like conditions already setting in, the Houston SPCA is urgently reminding pet owners of their legal and moral duty to protect animals from extreme temperatures and provide adequate shade, hydration and safety.
