Dozens of people are without a home after a large fire tore through an apartment complex in west Houston early Tuesday.
The Houston Fire Department was called to the Magnolia Terrace Apartments on Synott Road, near the Westpark Tollway, around 5:30 a.m. Crews arrived to find flames shooting from Building 13, prompting a two-alarm response with more than 100 firefighters on scene.
HFD officials said 24 units were impacted by the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A man who lives at the complex shared video with KPRC 2, capturing the tense moments as residents rushed to evacuate. From Sky 2, thick smoke could be seen billowing above the apartments as crews worked to get the flames under control.
While the fire has since been extinguished, firefighters remain on site monitoring hot spots in the heat — a job made even tougher by rising temperatures.
Arson investigators are now working to determine what sparked the fire. The Red Cross has been called in to assist displaced residents.
As of now, there’s no word on how many people have been affected.
