St. Laurence Catholic School dismissed students early Thursday after a suspicious package was discovered on the church property in Sugar Land.
According to Sugar Land police, the decision to close early was made out of an abundance of caution. While there is no immediate danger to students or staff, additional officers from the Sugar Land Police Department were brought in to assist and secure the campus.
An investigation into the package is currently underway. A source indicated that the package may have been left near the school’s chapel, though officials have not confirmed this claim.
Sugar Land police announced a person of interest has been stopped and identified in connection to the incident. The person has been detained.
Parents were asked to pick up their children using regular car rider procedures and reminded not to exit their vehicles during dismissal.
The school emphasized that all students remain safe and there is no current threat to the school community.
