$6 million bond given to gunman who shot, hurt Harris County Pct. 1 deputy constable Sheila Jones near courthouse

The man suspected of shooting Harris County Pct. 1 deputy constable Sheila Jones on Monday has been given a $6 million bond.

Parnell Treymayne Bland, 34, has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

He was given a $5 million bond for the aggravated assault of a public servant charge and an additional $1 million bond for the weapon charge.

Harris County deputies and Houston Police Department officers were patrolling the area near the courthouse when they were alerted to a man in the area with a gun. A spokesperson for the DA’s office confirmed Tuesday that Bland had two firearms.

Authorities located the suspect, identified as Bland, and they chased him. He pointed at least one gun at the officers, and an exchange of gunfire led to both Jones and Bland being struck.

Both were hospitalized with injuries and are expected to recover.

Shortly after the shooting on Monday, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare indicated that the county would pursue an aggravated assault against a peace officer charge against Bland for his role in the attack.

KPRC 2 has learned Bland has an extensive criminal history in both Harris and Liberty counties. This, after Harris County court records first showed Bland has at least six prior felony convictions, three of them drug-related crimes.

If convicted, Bland faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
