The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a man killed himself while speaking to deputies.

Not long after that, a second 911 call came through from a woman who arrived to clean her rental home in Cleveland. She was told by a man on the property that a dead woman was inside the home in Cleveland.

When deputies arrived, they attempted to make contact with the male suspect, who refused to leave.

The sheriff’s office said deputies saw him holding a pistol, and while speaking with him, he turned the weapon on himself in front of the deputies.

Once inside, deputies found a dead woman on the couch in the living room. The man was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

The woman’s body was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s office. Detectives are investigating the incident as an apparent murder-suicide.

The names of the man and woman are not being released at this time, and it is unclear what their relationship was.
