Major crash on East Sam Houston Tollway sends two to hospital, one by Life Flight
A crash on East Sam Houston Tollway involving a Precinct 3 deputy's patrol vehicle led to major traffic disruptions. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)
A Precinct 3 deputy is recovering from minor injuries after a crash on Beltway 8 near Tidwell. It happened just after 6 p.m. on Sunday when the deputy pulled someone over on the East Sam Houston Tollway Southbound.
Authorities say while the deputy was handling the stop, another car slammed into the patrol vehicle. The driver of that car was seriously hurt and flown to the hospital, but they’re now in stable condition.
The person in the car that was pulled over wasn’t hurt, and their vehicle wasn’t damaged.
The crash shut down all main lanes and both shoulders in the area. Drivers were stuck in backups for hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
Officials are still figuring out what led to the crash. We’ll share updates as we get them.
