Houston man arrested, accused of murdering man who crashed car after being stabbed

HOUSTON – Charges have been filed against a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man found at 3900 Maggie Street earlier this week.

The incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.

The suspect, Gustarvo Vargas, 48, is charged with murder in the 177th State District Court. Vargas has also been known as “Ivan Emmanuelli.”

HPD detectives and patrol officers responded to a report of a stabbing. The victim was been identified as Godfrey Whiting, 42.

Upon arrival, they found Whiting, who was unresponsive with an apparent stab wound after he crashed his vehicle into a ditch at the scene. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation led to the identification of Vargas as a suspect. He was arrested and charged on Tuesday, March 4.
