The man, who goes by Freddy, was near the parking lot of the Bank of America on Westheimer Road when he heard gunshots. He ducked between cars in the lot, hoping to remain out of the sight of the perpetrators.
“I heard gunshots and decided it’s best to get in between these cars,” Freddy told KPRC 2, translated from Spanish. “When I saw the [suspect’s vehicle] and noticed it was going fast, I hid more, because I didn’t want them to see me.”
To Freddy’s dismay, the vehicle stopped very close to him. He ducked to the ground.
One of the suspects was shot by a security guard during the robbery. Freddy said the suspects’ vehicle drove back towards the initial scene, and he believed this was an attempt to “save someone.” The driver of the car seemed to backtrack on that plan, and the suspects soon fled for good.
“[The car] stopped over there, close by to me,” Freddy explained. “I just ducked so they didn’t see me, and then they left.”
After the suspects fled, HPD officers arrived at the scene. Freddy told them what he had seen, acknowledging that he only heard the gunfire and didn’t see the actual robbery taking place from where he was standing.
