Woman arrested for leaving small children alone in filthy apartment; 1-year-old tests positive for cocaine, marijuana

A Houston woman has been arrested after her two young children were found left alone in disgusting conditions.

On Dec. 21, authorities say Denisse Urias Vargas, 21, left her two children—ages three and one—alone in a filthy apartment covered with trash and bugs. Officials also found exposed medication and a trash can overflowing with used diapers in the home.

Both children were found to be covered in lice and showing other signs of neglect. Shockingly, the 1-year-old also tested positive for both cocaine and marijuana.

Urias Vargas was charged with two counts of abandoning a child with intent to return. She was given a bond of $1,000.
