A small child was killed after being run over by a truck while sitting in a stroller in southwest Houston.

The accident took place at around 10:35 a.m. Thursday morning. According to information from the Houston Fire Department, the 2-year-old boy was riding in a stroller being pushed by his grandmother on a crosswalk when they were struck by a silver Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck.

The truck was turning left onto Fuqua St. from a stop sign on Bathurst Dr. when the collision occurred.

The crash caused the stroller to be trapped under the truck.

Paramedics at the scene rushed the grandmother and child to Memorial-Hermann Texas Medical Center. Reports indicated that the child suffered serious injuries, and doctors later pronounced him dead.

The grandmother sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation by the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division indicated the driver failed to yield the right-of-way to the grandmother and child as they used the crosswalk.

The 25-year-old man who was driving the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. He did not show signs of intoxication, and he was released after being questioned.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
