Man shot, killed in car during argument in west Harris County, gunman arrested

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A heated argument in a vehicle led to a fatal shooting in west Harris County, with one man dead and another in custody.

Harris County deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the 24100 block of Avogadro Dr. near Katy on August 5 at 7:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 38-year-old man lying next to a white SUV in the driveway, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Sgt. Beall with HCSO’s Homicide Division stated that the victim was shot by another occupant in the vehicle. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Jackson, allegedly argued with the victim before taking out a pistol and shooting him. Jackson ran away but was later caught on Porter Road by responding deputies.

Further investigation revealed the victim’s girlfriend was driving the SUV with her two cousins in the rear seat, including Jackson. Witnesses reported seeing Jackson run down Avogadro Drive towards Porter Road after the shooting, where he was caught.

A discarded weapon was also found nearby.

Jackson has been charged with murder and is currently in the Harris County Jail. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene Investigators are conducting a follow-up investigation.
