HOUSTON – As parts of the Houston area begin cleaning up after last week’s flooding, scammers are waiting to prey on vulnerable families.
The Federal Communications Commission has a few steps homeowners can take.
First, watch out for red flags from people claiming to be from government disaster assistance agencies.
Real agents won’t ask for money or account information.
If you get a phone call about insurance claim or policy, don’t give out information until you can independently verify its legit.
If you want to donate to relief efforts, make sure you are giving to well-known charities and verifying all contact information.
