Family finds mom shot to death at senior living apartment, investigators looking for clues

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Investigators are left with more questions than answers after a resident at a senior living apartment in northwest Harris County was found dead Thursday evening.

Details are still in the works as detectives surveyed the scene, but Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it happened at a senior living apartment in the 5800 block of W. Mount Houston Rd.

That’s where Gonzalez said a woman, 81, was found dead inside the apartment with an apparent gunshot wound and trauma to her body. Officers at the scene said the woman was found by her son, who tried calling her, but she wasn’t picking up and became concerned.

After he arrived at the apartment, he found his mother’s body and called 911.

Right now, the sheriff’s office hasn’t released any more details about the shooting, but detectives at the scene admitted they suspect foul play.

From what officers learned, the woman was a beloved resident of the community and are unsure what might have caused her death, but an investigation remains underway.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
