Houston toddler dies after being struck by Uber driver

HOUSTON – A Houston area child who was struck by a rideshare driver has died.

The accident occurred at 15502 Waverly Dr. in northern Harris County.

The female 1-year-old was hit after an Uber driver dropped off a family, which included the child. The driver thought the path was clear and drove forward, running over the child.

The child was transported to HCA-Kingwood Medical Center in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was later identified as Muhammad Khan.

The report was confirmed by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez:

Family members reportedly pulled Khan out of the vehicle and assaulted him. Khan was transported to Houston Northwest Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was cooperative with the investigation and reportedly showed no signs of impairment.

At this time, no charges have been filed against Khan or the victim’s family.
