Deputies arrest mother of man wanted for murdering ex-girlfriend’s 12-year-old son in Cloverleaf

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The mother of the man wanted in connection to the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old in the Cloverleaf area has been arrested, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office announced on Sunday.

Alva Cornejo, 51, was taken into custody, and she is the mother of Terry Bryan Rivera. She was charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Terry is still on the run and wanted for the capital murder of 12-year-old Carlos Fernandez. He was a former boyfriend of Carlos’ mother.

The shooting happened on Monday at Carlos’ family’s apartment in the 13900 block of Alderson Street.

Police said Rivera went to the bedroom window of the apartment and fired into the room where Carlos was sleeping. The child then died from his injuries.

Carlos’ two younger sisters, his mother, and another man were inside the home, but they were not injured.

This case is still being investigated.

Carlos’ visitation is being held on Sunday at the Vazquez Funeral Home, and it is open to the public.

The address of the funeral home is 750 Uvalde Road in Houston, and the visitation hours are 3-9 p.m. His burial will be on Monday.
