Houston ISD releases compensation plan for 2024-2025 school year

HOUSTON – The Houston Independent School District released its compensation plan for the 2024-2025 school year Tuesday.

The plan outlines the salaries of HISD team members and what they will receive in the coming school year.

“I am so pleased to say that many of those salaries are significantly higher than our surrounding districts,” said HISD’s Chief Human Resources Officer Jessica Neyman.

Neyman said the average salary for a teacher in Texas is $55,616. HISD’s starting salary is $64,000.

In the coming school year, Neyman said the salary table for teachers at non-NES schools will reflect a $2,500 step increase at each step.

The average salary for a high school NES teacher will start at $82,816.

For NES high school teachers with five years of experience, that salary goes up to $88,816.

For NES special education teachers, a teacher starting will make $86,000. At non-NES schools, it will be $80,000 for a special education teacher.

Special education teachers with five years of experience can make $92,000.

In addition, all hourly staff will now make no less than $15 a hour.

The plan isn’t final until approved by the board of managers as part of the budget for the next school year. Neyman said the board is on track to approve the budget on June 13. The new compensation plan would then go into effect on July 1.
