Nephew shot to death in front of uncle during attempted robbery in north Houston

HOUSTON – A man’s nephew was fatally shot in front of him in north Houston during an attempted robbery.

Officers were called to the Sunny’s Food Store and gas station at the 10200 block of Bauman Road at about 6:33 a.m. due to the shooting.

The Houston Police Department said that two men, an uncle and nephew identified as Andrew Garza, 30, were headed to work when the Garza stopped for gas.

While at the pump, another man in a gray Chevrolet Impala approached him with a gun and demanded money.

The victim’s uncle also pulled out a gun and fired at the suspect and his vehicle.

A passenger in the Impala was hit, and the suspect shot the man’s nephew in the head.

“The uncle had to see his nephew die in front of him,” said HPD Detective Alexander Vinogradov.

Andy Kahan, the Director of Victim Services at Crime Stoppers Houston told KPRC 2 Houstonians are fed up with this sort of crime.

“I think we are talking more about the stand your ground law then we probably have in recent times, like what can you do, what are you allowed to do as a person if you are in fear of your life,” Kahan said.

The suspects then reportedly sped off and headed to the hospital. At least one suspect was hit according to police, and three suspects are in custody.

Potentially all three suspects will be charged with capital murder.
