The constable’s office said it happened on a property located at the 13100 block of Millsite.

Earlier this month, the constable’s office said they responded to the property after receiving a tip that cockfighting was going to take place. Deputies conducted surveillance on the property at the time, but no activity was seen that day.

Sunday afternoon, the constable’s office said a citizen reported that cockfighting was happening at the property. Patrol Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were first on the scene and saw about 20-30 people fleeing the property when they arrived.

The constable’s office said some of those people were detained and the property owner was later arrested and charged with misdemeanor cockfighting, as he permitted another person to use his real estate and/or property for cockfighting.

Citations were also issued to other people.

The constable’s office and the Houston SPCA assisted with seizing 115 roosters and hens from the property. Eight roosters also died due to the incident and some were severely injured.

Investigators photographed several areas on the property used as makeshift cockfighting rings. In addition, investigators recovered blades that were believed to be used in the cockfighting and at various locations as well.

“This investigation remains ongoing as investigators are trying to identify the people that participated with the cockfighting. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office Animal Cruelty Section will be notified if new suspects are identified for a review on criminal charges,” the constable’s office said.
