PASADENA, Texas – An update to a story we first brought you a month ago involving broken mailboxes among a list of other issues plaguing The Pointe Apartments complex in Pasadena.
KPRC 2 was able to get a Pasadena City Councilman involved and since then there have been some improvements, but many problems still persist.
The last time KPRC 2 was there, the mailboxes were in such bad shape the post office wouldn’t even drop the mail off anymore. They have fixed the mailbox situation and while there’s still much work to be done here, the councilmen we spoke to say a multi-phase plan is in place.
“Mailboxes got fixed which is something more important, we couldn’t get our mail,” said one resident who didn’t want to be identified.
Another needed improvement on display is the trash situation, the dumpsters that were overflowing are being emptied more regularly, but the resident we spoke to who says he’s lived here for more than two years tells us about a list of other major problems yet to be solved.
“You got sewer rats from the bayous they have right here on the side… rats this big that come out and they come inside your house,” he said.
He says an exterminator tried to bomb them out, to no avail.
“It’s like they keep attracting them, I got a lot of holes, a lot of like rat poop everywhere. I can’t keep no food in my pantry,” he added.
No hot water, low water pressure and mold are just a few of the other problems.
“My ceiling in my room, I have water dripping down from the upstairs neighbors, my bed got wet just last night, I couldn’t even sleep in it,” he said.
Outside the apartments, there are more problems.
“The poop outside, it’s like the drains, they overflow,” he said.
Monday, Pasadena City Councilman, Emmanuel Guerrero, who has been working with Councilman Ornaldo Ybarra to improve conditions at the complex spoke about the ongoing plan.
“The roof on all the building will be redone by Gladiator Roofing, that is the current contractor and they are set to start work actually tomorrow,” Guerrero said.
Guerrero says that’s just the first phase.
“Then we can tackle the other issues like the plumbing, the leaks and finally the rodents,” he added.
Since KPRC 2′s first story aired. there has been a change in management. Guerrero says they’re all working together well with city officials and the local police department to make the complex safer and more livable.
