Store employee’s relative injured after robbery suspects open fire on family in NE Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man was shot by suspects after they robbed the store where his relative worked in northeast Harris County on Saturday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a 99 Cents Only Store at Little York Road and Highway 59 at about 10:10 p.m.

A man and woman had robbed the store, and they got into an argument with an employee. They later left and the woman cleaned up and also left the store.

She got into a vehicle with her 10-year-old child and male relative.

Then, she saw that the two possible robbery suspects from earlier approached her vehicle. One of the suspects opened fire at the family.

The employee’s relative then got out of the vehicle, and he was shot in the chest.

The suspects later fled from the scene, and authorities are still looking for them.

“It appears all I can say is that the suspects were recognized by the employee as being in the store and part of the disturbance. Whether or not they were specifically targeted, or it was just a fluke that they pulled in behind them and were recognized is another story,” said HCSO Sgt. Jonathan Ryan.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital and had surgery. No one else was injured.

This shooting is still being investigated.
