Woman shot in her own apartment by Harris County deputies responding to burglary call

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A woman was shot several times in her apartment by Harris County deputies as they responded to a burglary on Saturday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to an apartment complex in east Harris County in the 90th block of Uvalde Road around 2:06 a.m. for a life in danger call due to a burglary.

Authorities were then flagged down and told that there was another burglary happening at the complex.

Deputies made it to an apartment on the second floor, where they said they saw evidence of a break-in and burglary. Law enforcement officers said they knocked on the door and announced their presence. Then from the window, they said they saw someone was approaching the door with a gun.

Deputies then fired their guns several times and shot a 28-year-old woman multiple times.

More deputies were later called. Several tourniquets were tied on the woman, and deputies administered first aid to her.

Authorities later learned the victim was the owner of the apartment and a guest had been there with her when the shooting happened. The other woman was not injured.

The apartment owner was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. A weapon was also recovered.
