Man dies in south Houston house fire

HOUSTON – A man died in a house fire on Friday in south Houston.

The fire was located in the 5100 block of Nassau Court, according to the Houston Fire Department. Firefighters received several calls around 10:30 p.m. about the blaze.

“We got a call, came in as multiple calls with a house on fire, with possible victims trapped. What happened was we had a delayed response because we had another apartment fire that came in,” HFD Deputy Chief James Pennington said.

Firefighters later arrived to the house fire and found a person outside of the house. They told firefighters there was a man inside.

First responders then pulled the man out through a window, but he was later pronounced dead. His name was not released.

There were no other people inside the house. HFD was also able to contain the fire.

Arson officials are investigating the fire.
