Massive 3-alarm fire displaces 20 families at apartment complex in SW Houston

HOUSTON – More than a dozen families are now searching for a home after a 3-alarm fire destroyed their apartment complex in southwest Houston Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. at the complex located near the intersection of Skyline Drive and Hillcroft Avenue.

In all, fire officials said that about 20 families lost their homes due to damage from the fire.

Those at the scene said they noticed big flames and heavy smoke when the fire began.

The Houston Fire Department said that their call volume has been up more than 50% since the cold weather hit the Houston area.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported, and the American Red Cross will be helping place the families in new living situations.
