HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The driver of a motorcycle, who authorities said had been being chased by Harris County Precinct 3 deputies before the chase was terminated, died after crashing into a commercial truck in east Harris County Thursday.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened in the 15100 block of the Crosby Freeway on the eastbound service road.

The pursuit started around I-10 and Beltway 8 after the sheriff’s office said deputies attempted to pull over the motorcycle for traffic violations and because the license plate didn’t match the description of the motorcycle registration.

The motorcycle refused to stop and started fleeing north on Beltway 8 at a high rate of speed. Lt. Simon Cheng said the pursuit only lasted about one to two minutes before deputies terminated the chase due to losing sight of the motorcycle.

Shortly afterwards, deputies heard about a crash on the Crosby Freeway at Miller Road. Cheng said the motorcycle involved was the same one which had been being chased by Precinct 3 deputies.

“From what we have found on scene, he traveled on the service road shoulder at a high rate of speed, intending to flee further from possible apprehension by the deputies and that single unit commercial vehicle was turning right toward a lot,” Cheng said.

The motorcyclist, who Cheng said was not wearing a helmet, fell off the motorcycle which collided with the truck. The driver of the motorcycle was then run over by one of the wheels of the truck and died from his injuries at the scene.
