BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – A woman has been arrested following her indictment on 41 counts of cruelty to livestock animals in Brazoria County.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said Cynthia Anne Manders was taken into custody without incident after an arrest warrant was executed at a dental office in Lake Jackson.

The indictment on 41 counts of Class A Misdemeanor Cruelty to Livestock Animals stems from an August 18, 2023 incident where dozens of cows were found dead on a property off County Road 809.

The sheriff’s office said Manders faces a recommended bond totaling $125,000.

Each of the Class A Misdemeanors carry a penalty of a fine of up to $4,000, imprisonment for up to a year, or both. Texas law also prohibits a person convicted of animal cruelty from owning any type of animal for five years following their initial offense.

“Our community will not tolerate animal cruelty within Brazoria County,” the sheriff’s office said. “The swift and decisive action against Ms. Manders sends a clear message the such behavior will be met with the full force of the law.”
