Residents in Museum District building ave seen mail stolen twice in recent days

HOUSTON – Museum District resident Greg Weido and his neighbors are trying to stop a mail thief that has hit their building twice in the last ten days.

“The first break-in by the same person was on the 27th of December. The second one was on the 30th of December,” said Weido.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video opening the boxes in seconds. Weido says the mail robber is using a master key which allows for the rapid access.

“If he’s doing this, what else is happening,” said Weido.

Weido says complaints were filed with HPD and USPS which has investigators for these types of crimes.

However, Weido says the request to change the locks on the buildings boxes was denied because it will require boxes in other nearby buildings to be changed as they all rely on the same type of master key.

“Let’s just get the locks changed, I think that would solve everything. We’ve changed the front door codes, we’ve changed the access periods, now we need the United States Postal Service to do their job and change the locks,” said Weido.
