The incident took place at Shady Lane Park located at 10200 Shady Lane.

The Houston Police Department said a family was walking in the park when they heard gunfire in the distance. They then saw their 5-year-old had been struck in the leg.

As they drove to a hospital, they saw an HPD unit in the area of Parker Road and I-45. The officer applied a tourniquet to the child who was then transported to the hospital by the Houston Fire Department.

The child was alert and talking as he was being transported.

“The doctor’s advised he has some kind of pellet in his leg, we aren’t sure whether it’s a shotgun pellet or what, but he is in stable condition,” said Lt. Larry Crowson with HPD.

Crowson said officers have searched the area but have been unable to find any witnesses or shell casings.
