Timeline of events in pregnant 18-year-old, boyfriend’s deaths in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIOSan Antonio police are searching for answers in the deaths of a pregnant 18-year-old and her boyfriend after they were found shot inside a vehicle Monday.

Savanah Soto and 22-year-old Matthew Guerra were found dead in her car in the 5900 block of Danny Kaye.

Here is a timeline of events in the tragedy that has made national headlines:

Dec. 22: Soto and Guerra were last seen near her apartment in the 6000 block of Grissom Road at around 2 p.m.

Dec. 24: When reached by KSAT on Sunday, Leon Valley police said they received a request for a welfare check from Soto’s family on Friday night.

Dec. 25: A CLEART Alert was issued on Christmas at around 4 p.m. As reported by KPRC 2′s sister station KSAT-TV, Leon Valley police said Soto’s family told them that she was supposed to be induced into labor but did not show up at the hospital. Soto’s family reportedly gathered outside her apartment and asked for the public’s help in searching for her.

Dec. 26: The alert was discontinued just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Joanie Wasil, Soto’s sister-in-law, told KSAT that someone contacted her via Facebook and said they saw the Optima described in the CLEAR Alert in a parking lot. Wasil reportedly contacted the police as she and her family made their way to the scene. Wasil said she saw Soto and Guerra dead in the vehicle.

San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus announced that the bodies of a male and a female were discovered but did not confirm their identities nor the causes of death, pending information from the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Dec. 27: One Wednesday morning, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to KSAT that the bodies were an 18-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man. Police confirmed both victims had been shot.

As of Wednesday evening, the medical examiner’s office positively identified the man as Guerra. McManus and the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office have not positively identified Soto’s body or her cause of death.

Dec. 28: The medical examiner revealed on Thursday that Guerra died from a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death, homicide or suicide, is pending.

Police have not said what led up to the shootings and have not named any suspects in the case. KPRC 2 will be following this story closely as more information becomes available.
