Sheila Jackson Lee concedes to Sen. John Whitmire, congratulates him on being next mayor of Houston

HOUSTON – Votes for who would be the next mayor of Houston were still being tabulated well into Saturday night.

Both candidates, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and State Senator John Whitmire, hosted Election Night watch parties for their supporters to gather to hear the results.

In her speech on Saturday night, Jackson Lee conceded to Whitmire and congratulated him on being the next mayor of Houston.

Although votes are not finished being counted, Whitmire had about 64% of the votes on Saturday night as opposed to Jackson Lee’s 36%.
