Man serving 50-year sentence for killing potential witness in brother’s murder trial has died in East Texas prison

ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas – A 32-year-old man serving a 50-year sentence for the shooting deaths of a couple in 2017 has died in an East Texas prison.

Darius Gilmore took a plea agreement in April 2022 for the murders of 26-year-old Robert Watkins and 24-year-old Sydnece Prymus. The couple were found shot to death at a Greenspoint-area apartment on June 4, 2017.

Authorities said Gilmore shot the couple because one of them was going to testify against his brother in a murder case.

Gilmore was serving time at a prison in Tennessee Colony, Texas.

According to a custodial death report, a cause of death from a medical examiner is still pending but it is said that Gilmore committed suicide by hanging in the prison and died on Oct. 22 at approximately 9:03 p.m.
