US Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s campaign chair assaulted

HOUSTON – Gerald Womack, the chair for United States Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s (D-Houston) mayoral campaign, was assaulted near his office Monday morning by a “political operative,” an employee with Jackson Lee’s campaign described to KPRC 2.

Houston police officers were dispatched at approximately 9:50 a.m. due to an assault in the 4400 block of Almeda Road.

Angelica Kaufman, who works with Jackson Lee’s campaign, said a man hit Womack in the head. The man and Womack know each other, and he has allegedly been harassing the other man, police said.

He was taken to the hospital after the incident.

Womack is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of the brokerage company Womack Development and Investment Realtors Incorporated. No charges were filed, and the case is still being investigated.
