BERKELEY, California – Human bones that were found near the University of California Berkeley campus earlier this year belong to a Texas man who died from a homicide, police said on Wednesday.
NBC Bay Area reported that officers said these remains are Steven Lawrence McCreary’s. He was born in 1972.

He did not have a connection to the university and authorities said he would travel around the United States through trains and hitchhiking.
McCreary’s death was labeled as a homicide because of the condition his bones were found in, and his death happened “many years ago,” NBC Bay Area said.
The man was still alive in 2009, and he was 37 years old then. His bones were found on the Clark Kerr Campus at an unoccupied building.
Students said they were scared to learn about the incident.
“I think there needs to be some sort of justice serviced,” UC Berkeley student Sabrina Neushel told NBC Bay Area.
The case is still under investigation.
If you have any information regarding the homicide, you can call University of California Police Department Detective Sgt. Jon Caires at 510-642-0482 or Detective Mitch Levi at 510-642-3658.
